The Xanadu Next of Kin Chardonnay 2014 vintage was built on a sound foundation of sub-soil moisture with excellent (above average) rainfall throughout the winter of 2013.
The rainfall ceased almost completely from the end of November through to the end of March providing ideal growing conditions. Abundant Marri blossom leading up to, and during, harvest kept bird pressure very low, and yields were average for most varietals (although Chardonnay less so, due to strong to stormy wind conditions experienced at flowering in Spring). In summary; 2014 was yet another excellent season, continuing the dream run of vintages we have had in Margaret River over the last eight years! 50% of the fruit from the blend was estate grown in the Wallcliffe subregion of Margaret River, with the remaining 50% sourced from several other mature Margaret River vineyards.
“Wild-fermented and apparently unoaked; an exercise in laser precision and attention to detail in the vineyard and winery alike. Pink grapefruit and nectarine sit in the box seat, vibrant acidity an integral part of the profile. Xanadu does it again.” – JAMES HALLIDAY JAMES HALLIDAY TOP 100 WINES
The Xanadu Next of Kin Chardonnay is a bouquet of this fresh, fruit driven Chardonnay displays honeydew melon, pear, and citrus characters with underlying hints of loquats and hay. Oak is merely a bystander, yet its subtle influence adds another layer to the fruit aromas. The palate is medium bodied offering gala apples and stone fruits with a delicate creamy texture derived from lees stirring. A bright refreshing wine; crisp and dry, with a lingering fruit finish.
