Leconfield Cabernet Sauvignon is a fine, medium bodied palate, showing the cassis flavours typical of more traditional Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon.
Fine velvety tannins balance the textured sweetness of the fruit. The wine has a tight clean finish and is approachable as a youthful wine but will relish aging in the medium term.
A mix of raspberry, cassis, tobacco leaf and a touch of tar on the intense nose, which also shows meaty undertones and minty, eucalyptus lift. It’s lovely and fresh in the mouth with vibrant fruits, a fine grip of defined tannin and long length which leaves you wanting more.
Leconfield is situated in the heart of Australia’s famous Coonawarra with its rich Terra Rosa soil over limestone providing the ideal environment for growing premium Cabernet Sauvignon. The vineyard was founded in 1974 by pioneering oenologist Sydney Hamilton who at 76 years of age had the ambition to produce the classic Australian red wine. Time has validated his choice of Coonawarra as a fantastic place to do just that. Today the estate remains a family wine business owned by Dr Richard and Jette Hamilton and is planted predominantly to Cabernet Sauvignon with smaller patches of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Shiraz, Petit Verdot and complimented with the white varieties of Riesling, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.
Leconfield Cabernet Sauvignon has been the flagship of Leconfield since the first release in 1977. Their philosophy is to produce a Cabernet Sauvignon displaying both depth and elegance. The 2011 vintage produced medium a bodied style which should mature well over the next 6-8 years.
“93 points” 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon “(…) was one of my top wines.
It started a little closed on the nose, but opened up with concentrated red and black berries. The palate has similar intensity of sweet fruit, yet is only medium-bodied. It’s elegantly structured, balanced and has fine tannins. (…).”

93 points, “…retaining elegance and balance. (…).” (2012 vintage)
“Bright red/purple colour and a fresh, bright perfumed bouquet with lots of red and darker fruit aromas plus some stylish oak. The palate is medium to full-bodied, but by no means a blockbuster, retaining elegance and balance. Intense and driving on the palate. Good tannins, ripe and yet with a touch of firmness that gives it backbone.”
